red wine- france or australia–which one u like better?
Australia only really makes exceptional Shiraz, while France makes exceptional Cabernet and Merlot (Bordeaux), exceptional Pinot Noir (Burgundy) and exceptional Shiraz (they call it Syrah, in the Rhone region). Australian red wines are very big-flavored, full-bodied style wines, higher in alcohol and fruit concetration. French wines are generally “smoother,” more subtle wines, especially their Pinot Noirs. The Rhone wines are most similar to Australian Shiraz, but they vary much more in style and quality from year to year, since Australia’s weather is more consistent. I tend to enjoy the Aussie style more (try Hermitage or Amon Ra as fine examples), but nothing really compares to a high end Burgundy, a la DRC, or a top Bordeaux, a la Haut Brion, Lafite, Lynch Bages or Gruaud Larose. I will add that inexpensive French wines are horrific, but Aussies manage them very well.
