After a dinner party some dregs of heavy red wine (Amarone) were left in the bottom of a couple of decanters (one crystal, one thin glass). The next morning I left home for three weeks, having forgotten to rinse them.Of course, the wine evaporated, and, despite my efforts with warm water, washing-up liquid and a flexible wire brush, some brown-red stains remain in quite inaccessible places. Can anyone help, please?
Before the advent of all these wonderful chemicals it was done with warm water and shot. The beauty of this system is that apart from the fact that it works you can re-use the shot time and time again.

Well the first thing you need to do is put some white vinegar and water in the glass or decanter, right above where the stain comes up to. Then add some salt (it acts as a natural abrasive. But don’t start scrubbing). Leave it there for a couple of hours and you will see the stain dissolving in the liquid. Hope this helps.
