What’s the best red wine to use in sangria?

I’m making it on Christmas day and was wondering which red is the best for this?

The World’s Best Sangria
according to Webtender
1.5 L Red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon)
1 cup Sugar
3-4 oz plain Brandy
1 large Lemon, sliced
1 large Orange, sliced
1 large Apple, cut into thin sections.

    A really fruity one.
Not a cheap one though because it will taste disgusting.
    Cheers!

we always use Salisbury’s basic red wine. once all the fruit and lemonade and whatnot is in there you don’t notice that it’s cheap.

A fruity one works best. The cheap ones do as good-er job as the expensive ones, so you don’t need to splash out.

the webtender recipe is a good one.

i would nix the lemons and add some cherries. people like to get them in their drinks and they can add a sweetness to the batch.

for a little more kick, you can try throwing in a little peachtree schnapps or apple pucker.

and any decent cabernet should do the trick nicely. for a different flavor, try a merlot. for a lighter and fruitier blend, use pinot noir.

Any Red wine, do not use an expensive wine because you will be adding fruit and sugar and lots of ice. You can use any Burgundy, or a table wine. You can also make a White Sangria using any cheap white wine. Find a recipe using Google by typing in Sangria recipes.
