Malbec wine from Argentina – rich, dry . . . goes with anything. Funky Ilama (brand name) usually goes for 5.99 a btl in grocery store — pretty good.
Long Neck wines from Africa priced similary are also pretty good.
Australian wines are good too — Greg Norman’s wine is very rich and full bodied but a little pricey – 10.00 to 12.00 a btl.
Shaw wines at 2.99 a bottle are good when you’re tight for money.

Borollo, sp? . It is made from grapes from the peidmont reigion of ITALY! , just south below France at the bottom of the alpes. Perfect condition for grapes. This wine is dry and red and is great for cooking. But I suggest drinking it because it cost about $50 a bottle and cant be found in your local grocery store. You can find it at a wine shop.

It depends on your taste and what you are pairing it with. Some people like their wines dry, others like it sweet. It is a matter of preference. The best way to figure it out is to go to wine shop and ask. Those guys can help you. Or if you are close enough to wineries, go wine tasting.
I prefer merlot.
Now if you want to cook with the wine, I say go with charles shaw, lovingly referred to to "two buck chuck". It doesn’t taste that bad, and for two dollars, it’s a steal, especially when you are make catchatore (sp?)

It can depend on what you’re eating when you drink red wine… Merlot and Pinot Noir are not as full bodied as Cabernet and Shiraz, so they would go better with pasta, chicken or fish… Cabernet and Shiraz would go great with beef, veal or lamb. I love all red wines, with or without food, but I do prefer a Shiraz… so yummy!!

It does not depend entirely on the meal. It also depends on your personal choice/taste.
The more different types of wine you taste, the more you’ll be able to tell the differences, the subtleties that there are in the taste and aroma of wines. And then you’ll be able to tell apart a good wine and and a bad wine, and you’ll be able to plan ahead the type of wine you’ll feel like having with the meal you’re planning.
Until you get to that point, I suggest following the rule of thumb:
Meats – Red wine
Dessert, Seafood, chicken – White wine
(the type of meat will also help you decide the type of wine, I for instance like to have Pinot Noir with grilled meat, and Merlot with turkey, even thought turkey is not red meat)
There is plenty of info online, plenty of books too. I recommend going to wine tastings, and I wish I went to more wine tastings myself!

The only way to truly know is to just try them. It’s all about trial and error. You will get wined that you love and kinds that you hate. People have a different judgement of the kind of wines they like so don’t just ask people what they think is the best but try as many as you can.
Also you don’t gotta spend a ton of money on wine either. I have tried wines that cost $10-20 and they were pretty good. I have also tried wines that were over $50 and they were horrible. I’m not saying it is always like this but don’t automatically think cheaper wines suck and more expensive wines are better
My favorite kind of Red Wine is Chianti. It’s an Italian Red Wine. It is very smooth wine that goes well with alot of food.

If it is red you have to go French. Each red wine is from a different French region, the best year at the moment in easy to get wines is 2003 as it was a very hot summer. A Merlot is lovley or a JP Chenet, both under £5 in England and both fruity, full bodied but not too heavy like port.
I alkways go french, but Chille do good reds too.
