I need a really good quality red wine…..that is not too cheap or too expensive…any ideas?
I live in california
blue cheese crusted filet mignon with port wine sauce..
No one can, without more details.
The best wine for you is the wine you like the best. That, in turn, depends on your tastes, plus what you are going to drink it with, how much you have to spend and where you live.
The best red wine available in a 3-star restaurant in Paris would cost well over $2,500, be at least 20 years old, and you’d remember it the rest of your life. It would be a Bordeaux or a Burgundy.
In a package store in a small town in Utah, a state not noted for wine consumption, you might find a bottle of Fetzer Cabernet Sauvignon on sale for $7. You might not.
The best wine to drink with herb roasted chicken isn’t always the best to drink with spaghetti and meatballs.
If you are just starting and live in the USA, start with a Cabernet Sauvignon from California. You can usually find several in the "modest" price range in a grocery store.
Or, post again with a price range, what you plan to serve it with, what state you live in, how big your home town is, and, if your home town is under 100,000, if there is a big city nearby.
caymuscab14′s suggestions are all wonderful wines, if you can afford them and find them.
You didn’t say why you wanted the wine, either. If you are courting a woman whose father loves red wine, and want to take him a bottle to knock his socks off, you’ll spend more than if you are looking to buy a case of reasonable red to drink with dinner on nights you don’t have guests.

name brand… really, price is not important to me. the new wine to drink here in Indy is a cab./merlot mix. Gallo Brothers or Sutter Home both offer this as well as many other well known brands, I’m sure. I’ll say between 12.99 and 18.99 a bottle. good luck
