Has anyone tried a lot of them. I like Cline "Ancient Vines Mouvdre" I know that no boxed wine will equal that but what is the best red with some oak and smooth finish with some character.
over-oaked California or Aussie reds aren’t the best wines, no matter what packaging they come in
that’s like licking a friggen tree, i want to taste the grapes not a tree
and in California, i could see a vineyard of zinfandel being 100 year old vines, but mourvedre is a more recent phenomenon (outside of the Rhone and Spain anyway); to call such plantings ancient is hilarious, but that’s California wine marketing for you
Forget boxed wine if your looking for good wine with character. Go to your wine store and buy your a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, price will probably start at around $8.00 and go up from there. Some very good red wine can be had for little money. Check it out, you may like the least expensive one but if not go to the next one. Read the label. Ask the store wine expert questions about the wine you want to buy, some big wine stores even have a Sommelier (probably spelled wrong – but he/she is an expert in wines and wines grading).
Hope you have a great experience with your next bottle of wine.
cheers
